I'm Not In Love
10cc is an iconic British pop-rock band formed in Stockport, England, in 1972. The original lineup consisted of four highly versatile musicians: Graham Gouldman, Eric Stewart, Kevin Godley, and Lol Creme, who had been collaborating since 1968. All members were multi-instrumentalists, singers, songwriters, and producers, contributing to the group’s music in various combinations. Godley and Creme, in particular, were renowned for their songwriting, which drew inspiration from art and cinema.
The band recorded much of their music at their own studios: Strawberry Studios (North) in Stockport and Strawberry Studios (South) in Dorking, with Eric Stewart often taking the role of engineer. Between 1972 and 1978, 10cc released five consecutive UK top-ten albums: Sheet Music (1974), The Original Soundtrack (1975), How Dare You! (1976), Deceptive Bends (1977), and Bloody Tourists (1978). Their success extended to the singles charts, with twelve UK Top 40 hits, including three chart-toppers: "Rubber Bullets" (1973), "I'm Not in Love" (1975), and "Dreadlock Holiday" (1978). The worldwide success of "I'm Not in Love" marked a pivotal moment in their career, celebrated for its innovative use of layered vocal harmonies.
In 1976, Godley and Creme departed to focus on their invention of the "Gizmo," an electronic music device, and later established a successful career as the duo Godley & Creme, known for their music videos and experimental compositions. Eric Stewart left the band in 1995. Since 1999, Graham Gouldman has led a touring version of 10cc, bringing their celebrated catalogue to audiences worldwide.
10cc’s influence and legacy remain profound, with the band having sold over 30 million albums globally. Their inventive approach to songwriting and production continues to inspire musicians and resonate with fans, solidifying their status as one of Britain’s most enduring and innovative bands.
