Lucy Gaffney's short solo career has already seen acclaim from the iconic Liam Gallagher (who called her music ‘celestial’), a collaboration with DMA’s and tours with Bill Ryder Jones and She Drew The Gun.
Lucy Gaffney's music conveys an abundance of hypnotic and sensuous charm with vocals that flow effortlessly over laid-back brooding lo-fi rock, enveloped in a bohemian haze.
‘Easy Come Easy Go’ captures your attention from the first note. It invites you into a world that preaches of the beauty in the mundane, everyday loneliness and coping with the anxieties of the unforeseen. It takes you on a journey immersed in distortion-driven guitars reminiscent of the Pixies that counter low evocative conversation in Lucy’s voice. Tilting a cap towards Elliot Smith, Lucy’s vocals evoke a warmth, longing and urgency that sparkle with a glimmer of hope from beginning to end. Lucy Gaffney recorded ‘Easy Come Easy Go’ in her home-studio in Liverpool in 2021 and it was produced by her brother Thom Southern.
Influences aren’t worn on her sleeve, but lovingly interwoven into her process. From granite-willed female artists in Jenny Lewis, Carly Simon, Chrissie Hynde and Sinead O’Connor, to Radiohead, The Cure and The War on Drugs, a nod to meticulous song-craft is ever-present.
Previously, Lucy was part of Marathon signed band Southern, alongside her brother and consistent collaborator Thom – and her releases and profile carry this feeling of experience and self-confidence.
